Some Important Things to Know

Are you coming? Let us know here.

The Wedding:

The wedding will be at Earnestine and Hazel’s (531 S. Main St.) on March 21 at 5:30 p.m. with the reception immediately following. Dress is whatever makes you look and feel good.

Travel Info:

Memphis is easy to get to from just about anywhere. If you’re coming from Indiana, I recommend taking I-65 south to I-40 West in Nashville. Three hours later, you’ll be in Memphis. If you hit water, you’ve gone too far. Once you’re in Memphis, you’ll have to get on I-240 (to Little Rock). It’s a loop, so if you miss the exit that you need for your hotel, don’t worry – you’ll come back to it. Please be careful, as people in Memphis drive like maniacs.

Hotels:

There are plenty of hotels in both downtown and east Memphis. Downtown hotels will be closer to the wedding, but those in east Memphis are likely to cost less. If you want to stay somewhere cost-effective but classy, we recommend the Hampton Inn Peabody Place, the Marriott, the Sleep Inn at Court Square and the Doubletree. If you’re looking for something a bit fancier, try the Memphis classic, the Peabody (with duck parades to the fountain twice daily), the Madison or the Westin.

Things to Do:

If you’re planning on spending a few days in Memphis, there are definitely some things you should see. Graceland, the Stax Museum, the Rock’n'Soul Museum, the National Civil Rights Museum and the Pink Palace (where Matthew works) are all close to downtown. Also close to downtown is the Mud Island River Park. It has possibly the only scale model of the Mississippi river that ends in a kind of sketchy pool masquerading as the Gulf of Mexico.

If you’re in the mood for something less educational, Midtown has great food, bars, shops and record stores. Cooper-Young is a nice, pedestrian-friendly area. Overton Park (it’s huge) houses the zoo as well as the Brooks Museum of Art.
