There's this feminist expectation that strong, independent women have their own money. One catch: demanding fields that pay little. I've had to learn (slowly and sometimes painfully) that it's okay for my husband to make more money, to hand me cash, and help pay more of the bills. I constantly remind myself that I'm working as hard as I can, just not in an industry that pays well. Money and gender are like oil and water, no matter who has more income.
