The Spooky Notebook

I was a timid kid. Everything scared me. I couldn’t watch “Ghostbusters” until I was 12 without having nightmares. One of the worst nightmares I’ve ever had was about a Big Bird Halloween costume I had when I was four.

Remembering that nightmare still creeps me out.

Halloween has never been my favorite holiday. Still, however, I’ve always wished there were more Halloween songs. More than “Monster Mash.”

I’ve only ever heard a small handful that are worth mentioning.

But today, when listening to the “All Songs Considered” fall music preview episode, I was introduced to the song “My Body’s a Zombie for You” by a band called Dead Man’s Bones.

It doesn’t creep me out; it’s not exactly spooky, but it is entirely delightful, and it was NPR’s song of the day on my birthday.

Check it out, and then wrap your brain around the fact that the awesome, vintage heartthrob crooning vocals are contributed by current teenage heartthrob Ryan (fucking) Gosling.
