NPR’s New 404 Page is an Epic Win

NPR’s new site is pretty great. Everything is easy to find, the colors are nice, the podcasts are all right there at the top. But even on an awesome new site, sometimes things aren’t where you thought they were.

But having just gotten the new 404 page on npr.org, I’m totally ok with not quite finding what I was looking for. In fact, I can’t quite remember what I was trying to find in the first place.

Rather than go with a boring error message, NPR’s new 404 (Page not found) page has links to stories about other things that haven’t been found – Amelia Earhart, Jimmy Hoffa, Waldo. Love!

I love little easter eggs like this. Is there one for 301 Redirects? I have to wonder if all of the error messages on the site have snappy links. What about 406 (not acceptable) or 409 (conflict)? Has anyone gotten these errors and been redirected to stories about the Middle East?
