Dirty Money, as in “ew, ick.”

“Planet Money’s” Chana Joffe-Walt apparently associates the practice of regulatory arbitrage with Marvin Gaye’s let’s get it on. Adam Davidson disagrees. Giant banks/lenders can choose their own regulators all they want; he just doesn’t hear ‘sexy bow wow wow’ music when he thinks about it.

But this begs an important question. Does “Sexy bow wow wow” music refer to Marvin Gaye or to, y’know, Bow Wow Wow?

“I Want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow

“I Want Candy” is pretty sexy I guess – it’s a girl singing about what she wants from a man – but I think he meant “sexy bow chicka bow wow music,” as in the following example, which, though safe for work, will garner you the same looks as if it were not:

“Laying Pipe.” Sounds like it’s NSFW, but it’s totally SFW.

This whole episode of “Planet Money” is full of weird moments like that, and Caitlin Kenney purring, “I would looove to regulate your holding company.”  I never thought I’d say this about Kenney, but, ick.

I should have seen that coming; after all, the episode is called “Regulate Me, Baby.”

David Kestenbaum’s hilarious crying jag. The outrageous gain on the mics as he throws paper around and slams his head into the desk. Laura Conaway squeaking squealing and drawling. Chana Joffe-Walt owning all. Even if my phone thinks her name is Ghana.

All this and more could be yours, today, on the Planet Money podcast. Now, away with you.
