Sudanese Basketball Sketchest

I was on the way to work when they were playing the story about Sudanese basketball players. And frankly, it seemed a little silly.

I know what you’re saying – by which I mean that I know what my little brother is saying – I don’t understand, I’m not willing to see how basketball affects people’s world.

I do understand. I live in Memphis. We just lost Coach Cal to Kentucky.

But the thing is, I don’t really want to talk about basketball right now. I want to talk about someone we’ve let fall into the cracks around here.

Kerry’s blogged about her before, but she’s still going, and I want to give a quick shout out to Alessandra Olanow, who writes draws “Mornings With NPR.” As a daily practice, she simply sketches an illustration for a story on Morning Edition. Like this one, for the story I just mentioned:

All credit goes to Alessandra Olanow from morningswithnpr.blogspot.com on this one.

As far as I know, she’s got the only other blog out there dedicated to public radio that isn’t run by someone who works or has worked in the medium.

High fives for outsiders!

(And happy birthday to one of our favorite insiders, too – high fives for Laura Conaway!)
