We’ve created a monster.

This afternoon, I was on the phone with my mother, discussing plans for a wedding reception in Indiana, while letting Henry, our puppy run around downstairs.

Kerry and I leave a radio on for Henry when we’re out, and it’s rare that we ever turn it off immediately upon returning home.

Being the people we are, it shouldn’t be too hard for you to guess what station we leave it on.

So as I was sitting on the couch, holding the phone with one hand, and trying to control the dog with the other, I hear the evening’s last occurence of the All Things Considered theme song.

Henry immediately lifts his head up, baroos all over the room, and takes off sprinting towards the bedroom radio at the dulcet tones of Melissa Block.

He has begun to learn.

Also, by the way, WFMU posted an incredibly long list of “All Things Considered” themes from throughout the years. The early synth ones are pretty awesome. And there’s a bonus: a startling revelation about those familiar tones!

That theme was also used in The Beatle’s “I Will” (Will I wait a lonely lifetime/if you want me to I will) AND as incidental “at the beach” music in Jaws before ATC.
