No News Is Good News – At least for now.

In my last post, I mentioned how I was going to take a little break from consuming so much news in an effort to be a little happier. It’s been 48 hours, and holy crap, y’all, it’s working.

Granted, now I’m starting to feel mildly guilty that my news break is going to cause someone else to be laid off because I’m not consuming as much media. That’s not wholly true, though – I’ve been consuming different media. Instead of reading more scary stories about unemployment, I’ve listened to scary stories about Civil War theme songs.

Instead of dwelling on bad news, I’ve been reading, listening to music, and staying up on my local news. It snowed half an inch here, so I had coverage of the resulting panic to keep me occupied (you couldn’t find milk or bread for miles).

I’m not going to be able to keep this up. It’s unreasonable. I’m starting to miss the familiar sounds of the reporters that make my commutes so much more educational.

I’m less panicked though. Maybe the lesson I’m really learning here is moderation.

Just today I heard a story about someone losing his job, but considering he allegedly tried to sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder, I wouldn’t necessarily call it depressing.
