Seriously? Sea Kittens?

After a super busy day at the real job, I was skimming npr.org, checking out headlines and looking for something that stood out for tonight’s post.

There it was, gleaming in the right rail, today’s most viewed story, “PETA attempts to make fish more adorable“.  Awww!

From the headline, I can understand the story’s popularity. I have to know what PETA’s evil plan is. Are they going to start their own version of Cute Overload?

Sadly, no. They’re going to re-brand fish as “sea kittens”. For real.

sea kitten!

According to PETA, fish have feelings just like cats and dogs. And a family would never spend a weekend putting hooks through the lower lips of adorable kittehs, right?

PETA even has a feature on their Web site where users can create their own anerable sea kitty.

The real reason that this story is the most viewed has to be because people can’t believe it and are forwarding it on to their friends so that they can confirm the sanity of the original sender. While I was working on this post, I sent links to at least three people. The whole sea kitten thing sounds way too crazy to actually work.
