Kerry tried to recommend that I write tonight about a specific story. I couldn’t find that story, so I decided instead to talk about “The Takeaway’s” flippant treatment of kids’ reading suggestions for President-Elect Barack Obama.
Host John Hockenberry has the hardest time trying to avoid making fun of the kids’ obvious, non-sensical, or even cop-out reading suggestions.
I think he should have tried harder to stifle his giggles, even if the girl who did suggest that Lois Lowry’s “The Giver” offers a glimpse of what future “ghen-erations” (she totally pronounced it that way) have in store if Obama doesn’t “lead the country right.”
It shouldn’t be too hard to take them seriously. I mean, they all come from Iron Forge Elementary, which is the most badass name of an elementary school I believe I’ve heard – at least since the school I went to kindergarten at, Secret Ninja Training Facility Elementary School.
