NPR Sampler: Days Off Mean Media Avoidance

I took a much-needed day off from work today and tried to avoid my computer. It didn’t go so well. I did manage to avoid most news, though, which was a nice change. Apparently, quite a bit happened today.

The Obamas met with the Bushes, and I really hope that at some point, Laura pulled Michelle aside and reminded her that before that whole George W. thing, she was more liberal. I really do think that Laura B. is a stealth bad-ass.

Fall makes us all sad. Everything is dying, it’s pitch dark at 4 p.m. Stories about sad bastard jazz isn’t really helping, even with the E.E. Cummings shout out.

Planet Money’s own Laura Conaway is hanging out in China all week, making awesome podcasts.

If you’ve ever wanted to hear a Chinese punk rock song about the deep love between man and banjo, here’s your chance.  Apparently, banjos are like horses.

And now, if you’ll excuse me, Matthew is in the kitchen, itching to light all 24 candles on the red velvet cake he bought me. And I’m worried about a house fire.
