When I was a kid, my jetlagged father would wake up at 3 a.m. and go sit in the den and watch music videos that he had taped from MTV onto a VHS tape. Occasionally, I would wake up and go upstairs and we would watch child-appropriate 80’s videos.
As I remember the 80’s from music videos with my dad, there were only four songs with videos between 1987 and 1990 – Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, Midnight Oil’s “Beds Are Burning”, the Indigo Girls’ “Closer to Fine” and A-ha’s classic, “Take on Me” .
I was skimming NPR tonight and came across the best post of Monkey See’s short life. It’s “Take On Me”, reworked so that it’s explained very literally. Just watch it. You’ll be singing “Pipe…wrench…FIIIIIGHT!” in your head for at least a week.
Thank you, Linda at Monkey See, for bringing back some severe 80’s memories and turning tonight into one of those evenings where Matthew and I stay up all night watching “Pop-Up Video” on YouTube.
