Fever dreams in fields of salmon

Last night, I was feeling all out of sorts. Meaning I’d eaten way too many Virginia peanuts while at work, and my insides were not happy about that.I came home and immediately passed out on the futon listening to “All Things Considered.”

Somewhere in there, I missed “Marketplace” and the end of “ATC.”

I awoke  to Tom Friedman on “Fresh Air” being incredibly - and justifiably - angry about Rudy Giuliani’s “Drill, baby, drill” chant from the Republican National Convention. Friedman compared drilling as a response to the oil crisis to being like if the internet was met with people suggesting we connect via IBM Selectrix typewriters.

Dude is my hero, just for getting so irate in a public forum.

Then there was a promo for this morning’s “Morning Edition.” Renee Montagne seemed none too happy to be promoting the story she was talking about - salmon portraits.  You should have heard the disgust in her voice as she seemed to mutter under her breath something like:

I should have quit while I  was ahead. This network cancelled the most progressive thing we had going, so we could afford to report on salmon portraits? I give up.

In all fairness, I can’t claim insight into Montagne’s head, I don’t know what she thought should have taken precedence over salmon portraits, but rest assured, she thought something should have taken precedence over salmon portraits.
