Is it just me, or do the Olympics seem to go on forever?
Not that I’m complaining. I enjoy beach volleyball as much as the next person (and did you see last night’s US v. China game? It was awesome!).
The games aren’t just good for building national pride and making me lose all motivation to do anything on weeknights – they’re also comedy gold.

First, the New York Times ran a story on all of the weird things taking place in Beijing this summer.
Things like a lady with a net fending off moths, bathrobes, mascots and the theme music from “Jaws”.
Today, NPR aired a story about Chinese non-athletes who are going above and beyond in a 500 meter medley of crazy.
Both the NYT and NPR sound a little bemused in their writing about some of the more bizarre things going on in conjunction with the Olympics. In a lot of cases, this bothers me a bit because it can come off as condescending and pretentious. (Though, I’m not sure how else to best describe someone who rode a tricycle to the games other than bemusedly.)
I do kind of want to see the badminton cheerleaders’ routine now. Can we take a break from Usain Bolt for a second and watch some of that?
