Dear Radio, Get off my TV.

Matthew and I have been house sitting for my parents this week, which means that we’ve had access to their ginormous TV and 800 channels, some of which exist in HD (a format that I previously thought that only dudes could see).

Tonight, we happened upon the new TV version of “Car Talk”, and while I like the radio version, the cartoon is awful. Really, truly, godawful.

I could only watch a few minutes of it before begging Matthew to change the channel to something sane like “Really Big Things” or “Hannah Montana”. The plot seemed to center around a pledge drive that’s also an election. I never thought a cartoon could be so stiff-looking.

So radio, I’d appreciate it if you’d stay off my TV. Unless you’re “This American Life” and you have the big Showtime budget and skilled producers. And let’s face it - Ira Glass is way prettier than cartoon Click and Clack.

the second episode was a bit better (and/or maybe a bit more offensive)

and (as I will endless repeat to anyone who asks…or doesn’t), the show would be better with
    1) more click and clack, less other characters

    2) people driving up ridiculously nice or horrible cars and having click and clack fix/break them while chatting. I thought the best part was when the politician drove up with his really posh car where some nonsensical part of his car was monogrammed, etc. These guys don’t need a plot to be entertaining.

I agree with you on that last point - I think it was the addition of a half-baked plot that bothered me.

So that’s what that was! I don’t have cable, and PBS is the only channel that comes in really clearly, and I ended up watching that show yesterday. I couldn’t figure out what age group it was directed at…
