This week, Bryant Park Project producer Ian Chillag decided that he was going to do everything advertising told him to do for a week.
He showed up to stores at designated times. He tried to figure out vague instructions like “free the fun” and “Don’t leave your butt behind”. He didn’t follow any instructions that might cause him to spend more than $10. During the course of the experiment though, he realized a few things - most ads don’t have direct calls to action and ignoring things on a daily basis is relatively easy.
We have some ideas on how Ian can free the fun (hint - this isn’t one of them). Matthew says he should fry everything with whiskey - not only will it make food tastier, but it will also create a giant flame over your stove. He could chase pop rocks with some soda. He could run around the park in costume. He could put on a hard hat and figure out what the drilling is.
(Sidenote - on the BPP today, Mike Pesca made a direct reference to the constant drilling. He said there was some construction going on in the building. No crap - what kind?)
I’m not sure how Ian can remember to bring his butt along the next time he goes somewhere, but I’m forming a committee - No Butts Left Behind - to come up with an answer.
Overall, though, another interesting and irreverent piece by the BPP. Is it wrong that I kind of want to try this now?
(By the way - we’re still in the process of moving. It’s been five days. Why didn’t anyone tell us that we had this much crap?)
