OTM Recap, 06/06: Where is in the World is Arianna Huffington?

Kerry and I found out, the hard way, that when you cram two people who are used to a long-distance relationship into a one-bedroom apartment about the size of my parents’ living room, small arguments flourish.

We don’t like that. So, like WNYC, we moved. In the move, we gain an additional bedroom (from which we will most likely be posting), an addtional bathroom (in which we will be enjoying the clawfoot tub), a crazy staircase (which we will continue to have trouble carrying things up), and a good deal of extra space (with which we will make our friends jealous, because our deal is considered by most to be quite “good”).

We’re still moving (rather, cleaning up the stuff we accidentally left at the old apartment and unpacking the stuff we have moved), and so I don’t want to spend much time recapping, even though stuff like Scott McClellan trying to charm Bob’s pants off is totally worth discussion.

There’s also Guantanamo talk, and it just makes me angry, so we’ll ignore it.

What I want to talk about is how MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and Arianna Huffington’s Huffington Post are creating a bit of a left-wing Fox News. Maybe this is good; more balance is a good thing, and if it takes bias on both sides to create an unbiased media, then I guess that’s the best we’re going to get.

For instance, there’s KCRW’s program, “Left, Right, and Center,” where a moderator hosts three stand-ins for - get this - the political left, the right, and the center. The balance, the lack of bias, comes in the blending of these disparate voices. I only wish that there were more broadcasting mediums that would do stuff like that rather than cater to their own biases.

Also, “Left, Right, and Center” frequently features Arianna Huffington, which is how I became familiar with her, and how I began to grow fond of the fact that I can’t understand a damned thing she says.

Seriously. I kinda like her, but I can’t, for the life of me, make sense of Huffington’s accent. Bob Garfield has a really great interview with her in this week’s episode. (’Really great’ meaning ‘probing and in-depth until he asks her if she’s Ginger or Mary Ann.’)

As far as comment on this goes, well, just listen. Somebody tell me what you think she’s saying.
