In anticipation of the summer Olympics, “All Things Considered” has been doing extensive coverage of China, including the Chengdu Diary, a blog by NPR hosts as they prepare to host from China in May.
They’re doing a lot of preparation for the trip. Ever the journalists, they have books and DVDs about the country. They’ve also been spending time getting to know Chinese music and real estate.
That’s great and all, but what about the things listeners really want to know about. Where’s the hard hitting coverage?
Oh wait - here it is.
It seem that while in China, grumpyfaced photographer David Gilkey found something that actually made him smile.
I have to be honest - I was ready to snark all over this bit over coverage. So ready, in fact, that I had half a page of snark already thought up. And then, I watched the video, and heard the adorable panda noises. One squeek and I was totally disarmed.
Question - how can there be unrest in a place full of things this cute? I mean, come on - the bit where they’re eating? I dare you to not “awwww” all over your monitor.
There will be more from China as ATC’s trip gets closer. In the meantime, I’ll be sitting here, watching that video on a loop.
