It’s the wrong Garfield, but…

Being as I’m in Muncie for a few more months, and Muncie is home to Jim Davis, creator of the amazingly still-in-production “Garfield” comic strip, I figure I might as well give a nod to its greatest variant.

“Garfield Minus Garfield”.

Enjoy it before the inevitable Cease and Desist letter steals one of my greatest reasons for living.  I love how the removal of the title character turns a normally cloying and just plain not funny comic strip into an occasionally abstract narrative about one man’s creeping desperation.

There are other variants, such as “Garfield as a Real Cat,” which is occasionally funny, in its assumption that Jon does not, after all, understand what Garfield says, but the loneliness and isolation implicit in “Garfield Without Garfield” is hilarity unparalleled. That may be the strangest statement I’ve ever made.

Go now, bathe in the desperation.
