Recap 3/21: Five years, stuck in my eyes

Hope Bowie doesn’t mind me stealing his lyric for the title. If he does, well… oops.
OTM this week was all about the war. It’s been five years. I’m sure you’ve heard.
After the jump, I’ll try to brief you on this episode, and editorialize more than we […]

It’s the wrong Garfield, but…

Being as I’m in Muncie for a few more months, and Muncie is home to Jim Davis, creator of the amazingly still-in-production “Garfield” comic strip, I figure I might as well give a nod to its greatest variant.

“Garfield Minus Garfield”.
Enjoy it before the inevitable Cease and Desist letter steals one of my greatest reasons for […]

It’s Spring and You Know What That Means

It’s NPR Pledge drive time.
I’m pretty sure everyone hates pledge drive week. Listeners hate it because their news is interrupted.  Local announcers hate it because they have to ask for money, and let’s face it - NPR employees aren’t always the best salespeople.
More after the jump.

None of this is as I planned.

Driving to my parents’ home while listening to “All Things Considered,” I heard a couple stories that I wanted to write about for you guys. I even called Kerry and had her email me the stories I wanted to write about.
I have just decided against them. I discovered “B-Side Radio,” another of the alt.NPR podcasts, […]

In His Youth He Made Errors: More Tales of Astonishment

Last week’s recap received a comment - this is not the first time we’ve recieved a comment, but it is the first time we’ve received a comment that deserved special mention. I’m not saying that everyone else who has left us a comment isn’t worthwhile, just that, well… bear with me here, and you’ll want […]

Love and Hate, War and Peace, Real American Journalism Heroes and Britney Spears

Hey there, media fans! Brooke’s back this week, which means that Bob is back to his usual self. In a way, it’s both a good thing and a bad thing.
This week’s first story, however, most definitely falls under the banner of very bad things.
It’s the fortieth anniversary of the My Lai Massacre, which means that […]

Oh My Goodness.

Yesterday was a sad day for Memphis strippers. Local clubs have been, er, stripped of their right to serve beer and feature bare breasts. Here’s the full story from the Commercial Appeal.
And in honor of this occasion, I’d like to share with you a classic story from alt.npr.org’s “Love and Radio” called “Strip”.

Because That Makes Me Feel So Much Safer.

In the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings last year and the shootings in Illinois this year, some students are pushing to be allowed to carry guns on campus, the Bryant Park Project reports.
I live in Memphis. In the last year, there have been several minor (if there is a such a thing) school shootings […]

When You Grow Up, You Can Be Whatever You Want

I’m not sure how they fit this in their programming, but NPR has done a story on Leslie Hall, the gem sweater lady.

To be fair, she’s not just the gem sweater lady - she’s also a rapper. Say what you will about a plus-sized lady in stretchy gold lame with a penchant for naming bejeweled […]

OTM Recap: 3/7 - I Was a Pre-teen Female Wookie and Other Tales of Astonishment

Okay boys and girls: Brooke’s out this week. Which means that this is all Bob, all the time. All dad jokes and no feminine subtlety to break them up. It also means that there’s not much here for us to parse out into our long-running assumption and claim to know that Bob loves Brooke.
Thing […]
