Erstwhile Pinboys, Baristas Flee Vermont: Morning Edition Roundup

I love Morning Edition - I love the velvety voice of Carl Cassell. I way the Renee Montagne sounds like she kinda can’t stand Steve Inskeep. When I stayed with Matthew over Christmas, I terrified and amazed him by waking up at exactly 5 a.m. every day to demand that he switch the radio back to NPR for Morning Edition.

Just in case you missed today,  here are some of the finer selections from today’s episode:

- All seven thousand Starbucks stores closed last night so that baristas could re-learn how to make coffee. We can only hope that they paid attention. Listen

- Frank Deford is outraged, and it’s not because the Memphis Tigers had their first loss of the season to No. 2 ranked Tennessee this weekend. What’s got Frank so upset? The national bowling headquarters is considering moving from Milwaukee to Texas. Listen (and go Tigers!)

- Every year, a thousand college kids flee Vermont for more populous pastures. Now, Vermont is asking them nicely if they wouldn’t mind coming home. Listen

- First it was the New York Philharmonic, and now it’s… Eric Clapton? He’s been invited to play in North Korea, where the government officially frowns on rock music. Proof that when you’re repressed, easy listening is totally subversive. Listen
